Weston crashed from the sublime of bowling Corsham out for 74 last week to being bowled out for 115 by Bristol who completed a comprehensive 9 wicket victory in the 24th over despite several rain breaks. Gloucestershire’s Vickram Banerjee was the pick of Bristol’s bowlers, finishing with 3-11, while Charlie Walker led from the front to hit 65 not out, Weston’s attempts are best left unmentioned.
Corsham turned the tables on title hopefuls Bridgwater, despite 115 from Merv Hallaran in Bridgwater’s total of 210-8, Corsham’s batsmen all chipped in and they reached the required total with 2 overs to spare, meaning that still just 12 points separate the bottom 4 teams.
Downend scored an unlikely victory with one ball to spare over Taunton Deane, successfully chasing down 203 in a rain reduced 37 overs. Jack Leach hit 74 for Deane, but was out gunned by Downend’s Matt Jackson who hit seven sixes in his 85 as he allowed Downend to get within touching distance of the win before Ian McEwan and Bobbie Naeem finished off proceedings.
Tauton St Andrew’s James Trundley scored the second Prem 1 century of the weekend as he carried his bat to see his side easily chase down Thornbury’s under par 185 with 10 overs to spare.
Nick Trainor also made it into the hundred club as his 111 allowed Frocester to post 222 from 40 overs, but Bath’s Alex Barrow was not going to be outdone as he carried his bat for 108 as the Frocester bowlers had little answer to an imperious display of batting from the Somerset player. Bath’s 9 wicket victory took them back to the top of the table, but if we’ve learnt anything this season, that’s anything can and does happen!
