Another shock defeat for Frocester on their home territory again left Bath sitting pretty at the top of the league. Against new relegation favourites Weston-super-Mare they struggled to 177 all out, thanks to an unusually low batting Louis Gegg who bolstered the total with a solid 46, the real damage having been done by Weston’s man of the match Andy Fear who recorded his season’s best figures of 10-2-16-4.
Frocester’s Tom Furley almost matched him figure for figure, with 10-3-18-4, but match saving partnerships between Shabil Ahmed, Edd Brown and Gary Morgan ensured an unlikely victory for Weston.
Bath successfully jumped into top spot with a somewhat comprehensive victory over suddenly struggling Thornbury, hitting 326-8, thanks to 127 from Alex Barrow and a number of gifted extras. Despite a good start from Nick Stovold, and some middle order runs from Steven Ford Thornbury found themselves 170 all out in the 37th over.
Rob Woodman’s good season for Taunton Deane continued with another hundred as they posted 253, but a solid top order display from Bridgwater, with the top three all hitting 50s ensured they passed the total pretty comfortably in the 49th over.
Bristol, despite their poor start to the season, recorded another good victory over similarly placed Taunton St Andrews, with the third ton of the weekend being recorded by Charlie Walker as Bristol posted 245. For the Saints, Kevin Parsons was the only batsan to really show any substance with a half century as their innings petered out for 200.
Rounding off proceedings was on the up Downend, with inform Matt Jackson leading from the front again, as Downend finished up on 275 from their 50 overs. Tom Bowler continued his good form with the bat as he recorded 75, and a number of other good starts from the Corsham batsmen kept Downend on their toes, as Corsham fell just 6 runs short of what would have been an unlikely but deserved victory.
