Widespread rain meant widespread cancellations across WEPL last Saturday, with Thornbury v Bristol and Frocester v Corsham being the Prem 1 victims. Bath made the most of Frocester’s bad luck by beating Taunton Deane by 8 wickets. Several Taunton Deane batsmen made good starts by failed to progress as Simon Marchant returned figures of 5-32. Ben Staunton and Mike Smyth them helped Bath finish off proceedings inside 30 overs.
Bridgwater recorded a comprehensive victory over local rivals Weston-super-Mare. Posting 292-5 from their rain reduced 49 overs, including an imperious 130 from Michael Coles, they proceeded to bowl Weston out for 131, a margin of 161 runs.
The final result to make up the trio of game completed saw an unlikely victory for Taunton St Andrews over Downend. A century for Australian Josh Barrett in a healthy total of 254 was not enough as Downend then gifted the Saints 43 extras to allow them victory with 2 overs to spare.
