A seventh century of the campaign (a Premier League record) from Derbyshire's Paul Borrington helped Ticknall to the lion's share of the points in a drawn match at Dunstall. The result, however, was good enough to see Ticknall move up into third place albeit some 60pts behind the leading two. Borrington (111) was again in fine form and his chanceless century enabled Ticknall to post a challenging 246 for 5 from their 50 overs. Luke Harvey (30) helped add 71 for the opening wicket and Zain Abbas (31) helped add similar for the second wicket. Shahid Khan (35) joined in after the cheap loss of Ed Ikin, Borrington eventually falling to the returning Craig Jennings with the score on 208. Martin Clewley finished with the excellent figures of 2 for 46 from 14 overs. Tom Mandleberg (35) and James Benstead (53) set the Dunstall reply off on the right note with a stand of 64 but a fiery Ryan Cowley (2-42) then reduced the home side to 104 for 3. Nobody then could move the score along at the required level and wickets for Khan (2-43) and Abbas (2-53) made for a nervy finish. Dunstall eventually closed on 203 for 8 and their haul of 9pts keeps them in a solid sixth place. Borrington now, incidentally, has 1162 runs to his name this season.
Ockbrook & Borrowash slipped to second in the table after being held to a draw by Chesterfield. Matt Lineker was lost cheaply but Ockbrook recovered through Jonny Guthrie (24) and Jake Needham (33). Simon Lacey's introduction saw the home side reduced to a shaky 88 for 3 but Jonny Owen (92*) and Matt Cassar (33) turned things around with a fourth wicket stand of 72. Lacey continued to prove troublesome but Owen's superb 63-ball knock eventually saw his side to 246 for 5. Ben Slater (51) stood firm as Chesterfield dipped to 37 for 2 in reply but he eventually found an ally in Lacey (24) and together they added a valuable 67 for the third wicket. Needham (3-47) and Lian Wharton (2-43) were proving tricky, however, and Slater and Lacey fell in quick succession to leave the reply on 106 for 4. This became 135 for 6 with the cheap dismissals of Drage Thompson and Aaron Jepson but Joe Cooper (37*) provided the vital resistance and Chesterfield closed safely on 171 for 8.
Sandiacre Town returned to the top of the Beechwood Saab Premier League courtesy of a comfortable win at the home of reigning champions Lullington Park. The writing was on the wall for Park when acting Sandiacre captain John Jordison won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the home side to bat against perhaps the strongest seam attack in the league. James Docherty became another new opening partner for Andy Goodwin as Jonny Shales tinkered with his batting order. Goodwin opened brightly with two boundaries but nicked Ryan McFadyean to the keeper for 10 in the seventh over and then Sam Eaton offered Dan Wheeldon a return catch and Park were in an all too familiar situation at 25 for 2. Richard Green, the only Park batsman in any sort of form, played some delightful shots before mistiming one to be caught off James Chapman for what proved to be the top score of 34. Park were 86 for 4 when Doherty's patient vigil was ended by John Jordison, the first of four LBW decisions. Doherty had made 17. Jonny Shales (18) was the second LBW of the day and worse followed when Jordison trapped Steve Rothwell first ball. Second team captain Adam Johnson, fresh from a century last weekend, tried to hit Dan Wheeldon over the top but only succeeded in picking out Naveed Qureshi at mid-on and Park were all at sea on 106 for 7. Alan Gough (21*) and George Chapman (18) put together the best partnership of the innings of 40 before Jordison introduced Qureshi's spin to trap Chapman in front and then have Paul Dawson caught at slip for 5. Graham Dent, making a rare appearance with the bat, brought the innings to a close when he edged Jordison to slip to leave the Sandiacre skipper with impressive figures of 4 for 38.
Early wickets after tea failed to materialise for the home side and it soon became clear that 160 was not going to be enough with James Chapman and Tom Priestley, the latter promoted in place of holidaying veteran John Trueman, put on a steady 86 in 22 overs. Priestley outscored his former Derbyshire partner but got too ambitious against the wily Alan Gough and skied a catch to Richard Green at mid-wicket for a promising 36. Qureshi joined Chapman and accelerated the run rate. Chapman did the same after passing 50, taking three fours in successive balls from Gough. Shales was shuffling his bowlers in an attempt to achieve a breakthrough and it was Sam Eaton with his gentle off spin who induced a nick from Chapman (65) but by then it was too late. Matt Gouldstone completed the formalities with more than 15 overs to spare leaving the Qureshi unbeaten on 39.
