Cuckney extended their lead at the top of the table

The dreary weather that has so far blighted the Nottinghamshire Premier League 2012 campaign continued on Saturday but did not prevent the five scheduled games from being played to a conclusion.

The sixth game between the West Indian Cavaliers and the Nottinghamshire Academy has been postponed until 15^th July to allow the Academy to provide net bowlers to England and the West Indies ahead of their Twenty20 match at Trent Bridge.

Cuckney took the chance to open up a fourteen point lead over the two non-playing sides at the top of the table when they secured 20 points away at Wollaton.

Batting first, the visitors were dismissed for a below-par 167 in two balls less than their allotted 50 overs.

Will Root continued his recent good form with 51 and Richard Stroh supporting with a valuable 39. 

Two Wollaton bowlers grabbed three wickets each, Dominic Reed with 3-40 and Alex King with 3-37.

Any fears that the league leaders had that their total was not going to be enough disappeared when they bowled the home side out for 157, Luke Wood again starring with the ball taking 4-48.

Caythorpe move up to fourth in the table with after a resounding 4 wicket win away at Mansfield Hosiery Mills.

On yet another difficult days for batters, the Millers closed on 167 for 7 at tea with Matt New grabbing 44 and Sudesh Fernando 49. 

However difficult the home side’s batsmen found it, Josh Mierkalns (58) and Steve Allcoat (34) put on 90 for the third wicket and this proved to the foundation for the win that was achieved at some speed, with more than 18 overs to spare.

Clifton’s home fixture against Plumtree proved to be an enthralling affair with several switches in momentum throughout the game. 

Plumtree opted to bowl first on winning the toss and when they had Clifton 30-3, things seemed to be going their way.

But they had not figured on Martin Weightman putting in a man-of-the-match performance when he carried his bat for 104.

He was leant support by another good knock from Tom Lungley (51) and Adam Shepherd (32) struck some lusty blows to enable Clifton to close on an impressive 256 for 7. 

Muhammad Usman was the leading Plumtree bowler with 3-71 including 9 of the 31 wides that the visitors conceded in a sloppy performance.

Plumtree ended up clinging on for a draw nine down with the Milnes brothers starring, Ben hitting 41 and Matt 33 not out.

The Clifton bowling unit performed well with Weightman enjoying his day with 2-17 and Alex Turner grabbing 4-24.

Kimberley are in fifth despite only winning one game this season and they added to their record of draws in their game with Welbeck at Sookholme.

The visitors batted first and ended on 228 for 6 with runs for Akhil Patel (60), Sam Ogrizovic (52) and Paldip Sidhu supporting with an unbeaten 40.

Welbeck so nearly registered their third win of the campaign when they fell four short with six wickets down.

Martyn Dobson (41) and Jonny Loates (30) did their bit but Guy Darwin was there at the end with 61 not out.

Worksop remain rooted to bottom spot after a six wicket loss at home to Papplewick.

Despite a start delayed by 25 minutes, the home side took only 44.2 overs to dismiss Worksop for 162 despite Kelbert Walters’ 44 and Gareth Pursehouse who struck 37. 

Papplewick strolled to their target with just over ten overs to spare with Matt Dowman scoring 41 and Eamonn Vines seeing the job through with 58 not out.
