Optimise Net Practise Interesting, Challenging, Inspired…. The standard net session involves a series of batsmen going in to have a hit for 5-10mins at a time, until the coach shouts ‘LAST THREE, YOUR TARGET IS 10!’, or something of that nature. BE INSPIRED! Net practice is one of the very best ways of getting a huge amount of ‘learning’ time if managed correctly, with batsman getting to face a high volume of deliveries, and bowlers able to bowl a ball every 30-seconds or so. This is the reason that net practice has stood the test of time, but it doesn’t have to be boring, and you can make it competitive and challenging as required so that players get used to performing under pressure from a young age. Lets challenge the batsmen, challenge the bowlers, keep scores, have aims and targets, and try to learn something every single session either about yourself or about the game. Every time you bat in the middle you have to overcome the opposition, and take on a challenge, so why not train for success? Players learn more about themselves and the game by being challenged. The following challenges start from the simplest forms of targets for the novice, up to much more in-depth drills to ensure even the 1st X1 opener is striving to achieve something every session.
