A good run in the cup but looking for more consistency in the second half of the year!
Following our pre season chat with Ed Foster the captain of Shrewsbury the LCA have spoken again to him to see if his and the clubs season has lived up to expectations!
1/ How are you finding captaincy this season so far?
2/ How are the team doing?
We're mid table in the league and haven't had our strongest season so far, performing too inconsistently. We're doing well in the National Knockout though and have just made it through to the national stages.
3/ How if at all is captaincy affecting your personal on field performances?
I don't feel it has done (yet), despite the fact we have a young side, everyone chips in in order to do what we need to.
4/ Is there a stand out game this season that made captaining the club so enjoyable?
Any win will do! It's much better than losing when you are captain of the side.
5/ Have your season goals changed now we are part way through the season?
Realistically we're probably a little off the pace in the race for the league with Barnt Green starting the season so well, however, there is a long way to go. Reaching the last 16 of the National Knockout wasn't something we necessarily expected to do given the number of clashes with Minor Counties matches in the early rounds, but it would be great if we could match our efforts in 2009 and reach the semi-finals, but go once step further this time.
6/ How have you found the umpires in your league on the whole?
In the Birmingham League, generally the umpires seem to be good, I can't think of many issues we have had other than the odd bad decision.
7/ Who has proved to be the most annoying team mate and why?
Tom Cox comes in for a lot of stick but Will Parton would probably win this one , constantly talking and rabbiting on about nothing, just to keep himself entertained.
8/ Give us a rundown of activities during a normal home game, ie. wake up, breakfast, get to ground, do the ground jobs, warm up, toss up, play, bar, curry, nightclub etc!
We net on a Friday night so everyone tends to come together the day before the game at the ground and depending on the current bank balance of some of our student players we'll often head out for food after. We try and get all the ground jobs done at training so that we can turn up and get stuck into the customary game of football before we turn our attention to cricket! I think the top six have won more than they have lost this year! Whatever the result we'll stick around for a drink after the game and see where the night takes us!
