Throwing Drills Four Stations – Four Jobs Skills: Pick-up and throw, backing up, underarm flick, short catch. Set-Up: You need fi ve markers and a set of stumps. Set them up (see diagram) with a central line of four markers, one of which is the stumps. The other two markers are about 15m away from the set of stumps. Activity: The coach/Keeper starts on the marker nearest the stumps. One player is on marker number 2 (see diagram) and one player is on marker 4 (see diagram). The rest of the players are split in half with one queue of players behind each of the remaining markers, 1 and 3. Each of the markers has a different skill to perform, which results in everyone being involved in a great fun fi elding drill; (sounds complicated but is easy once you get going!) Station 1: Coach/keeper (WK) rolls ball out, player attacks, picks-up and throws .................at the stumps. Station 2: After throwing at the stumps, player runs on to an underarm flick fed .................by player. Players swap and player on station 2 runs onto back of .................queue at station 3. Station 3: Player moves into appropriate position to back up the throw at stumps .................from station 1, then throws back to the keeper before moving onto .................station 4. Station 4: Player on station 4 feeds an underarm catch to oncoming player. .................Players swap, player from station 4 runs to back of queue at station 1. Variations 2 and 4: You can be a bit inventive on stations 2 and 4, depending on what you ..............want your players to practice; one-handed pick-up, two-handed pick-up, ..............wronghanded pick-up, low catch, head-high catch, high catch, one-handed ..............catch etc. are just a few of the options. Different Balls: Try having different balls on stations 2 and 4, maybe a golf ball, or ...........................a tennis ball, or even a rugby ball! It will give a different challenge ...........................for the players to catch the different balls which will help general ...........................hand-eye co-ordination.
