Both the title race and the relegation battle in Prem 1 were thrown wide open following round 14 of the league season, leaving Frocester back at the top of the table by 3 points over second placed Bath and 4 points over third placed Bridgwater, while at the bottom of the table only 9 points separate 5 teams.
Previous relegation favourites Corsham upset the apple cart with a comprehensive victory over Thornbury, bringing them within touching distance of survival. Wayne Kylander returned season best figures of 6-56 for Thornbury, and Corsham seemed in trouble at 81-4, but a half century from overseas Robin D’Souza, and 95 from Tom Bowler allowed Corsham to post the highly competitive 286-9. Despite 85 from Juvaunie Gayle and solid 30s from Curtis Blakemore and Kylander Thonrbury fell 56 runs short.
Taunton Deane completed a comfortable victory over local rivals Taunton St Andrews to cement themselves safely in the middle of the table. Several Saints players made good starts, but they subsided to 182 all out, in reply Rob Woodman led from the front, top scoring with 39 as Deane hit the required runs with more than 10 overs remaining.
Frocester’s runs were shared round, as Jack Taylor hit 60 in a total of 234 against Bristol, with Will Rudge accounting for half of the 8 wickets that fell. Frocesters bowlers also shared the wickets as 40s from Shazil Mustafa and Rudge failed to take Bristol anywhere near the total as they were bowled out for 164.
Weston’s top 4 all made promising starts and at 173-4 looked as though they were going to post a big total, but as the middle and lower order failed to reach double figures they ended their 50 overs on the less than competitive 205-9. The Downend batsmen made hay and despite a brief wobble which saw them fall from 66-0 to 75-4 Matt Jackson continued his purple patch with a solid 67 which left a Downend win as the only result, and Rich Pandya hit the winning runs in the 47th over.
Rounding off proceedings saw Bath recover from 70-7 thanks to runs from Harry Rouse and James Thorpe to finish on the much more defendable 192, however Merv Hallaran carried his bat for 82 while a quick fire 44 from Ian Bishop meant Bridgwater won by 3 wkts with 10 overs to spare.
