High Wycombe.CC skipper James Benning smashed 160 at the weekend to become the LCA Batsman of the Week.
The former Surrey & Leicestershire batsman hit the runs in the clubs draw with Harpenden.CC in the Home Counties Premier League.
After a poor start to their innings, Benning and wicketkeeper David Cranfield-Thompson put on 219 for the fourth wicket to put High Wycome into the ascendancy.
The 29-year old hit 21 fours and 4 sixes on his way to 160 that came from just 117 balls.
Cranfield-Thompson supported Benning excellently throughout the partnership and contributed with 83 runs of his own.
The home side eventually finished on a daunting 321 for 6 declared.
Despite 3-52 from Robin Collins, High Wycombe were unable to force the win largely due to a stubborn 61 not out from Will Spencer for Harpenden.
The visitors eventually finished on 157 for 6 off 54 overs to end the match as a draw.
The result means High Wycombe’s lead at the top of the league has been reduced with Tring Park.CC securing victory over relegation-threatened Burnham.CC at the weekend.
Despite the frustrating result, Club secretary Gavin Elliot is still confident of the clubs chance of retaining the title: “We are in a good position, but we’ve got the team who are in 2nd place this Saturday so that will probably go a long way to deciding who takes the title come the end of the season.”
High Wycombe continue their league campaign with their crunch away match to Tring Park this Saturday (11th August).
