Kimberley Institute.CC opener Dan Birch hit an unbeaten 180 at the weekend to become the LCA Batsman of the Week.
Birch hit the runs in the clubs winning draw against Wollaton.CC in the Nottinghamshire Premier League.
Batting first, Kimberley posted 311 for 5 off their 50 overs, with Birch taking just 159 balls to reach his score that included 16 fours and 9 sixes.
Birch joined the club after moving to Kimberley from current league champions Clifton Village.CC with the move believed to be because he wanted to play his cricket closer to home.
Jon Terry’s knock of 55 provided valuable support to the Lincolnshire batsman as the visitors reached an imposing total for Wollaton to chase.
Despite Matt Wright, James Mann and Paul Riley all taking two wickets, Kimberley were unable to finish the job off and Wollaton reached 195 for 9 at the end of the day’s play to prevent an away victory.
Ian Dodd’s stubborn 62 went a long way to preventing a Kimberley win.
Kimberley move 5th with the winning draw but the result leaves Wollaton deep in trouble at the foot of the table, just once place of the bottom and 9 points from safety.
Kimberley face a vital match this Saturday (18th August) away to Mansfield Hosiery.CC who sit just once place above them in the league.
