Callum Turner after his impressive knock

A 15-year old at Stretford Cricket Club has been turning heads for all the right reasons for the club’s 1^st team this season.

Batsman Callum Turner hit an impressive 171 not out for Stretford in the club’s convincing victory over Dukinfield.CC in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League at the weekend.

The opener hit 16 fours and 4 sixes on his way to the score that helped Stretford post an imposing 390 for 4 in their innings.

Chris Turner, father of Callum, and Stretford 1^st team player believes it was a wonderful innings to watch: “He’s always been a positive player, but it was one of those days when everything goes your way and it was an impressive performance.”

In what is only Turner’s second full-season playing in the 1^st team, the promising batsman has outscored the club’s professional in the league so far.

It’s not just his batting exploits that have stood out, Turner is 6ft 5in tall, a height that exceeds many of the adults in his side.

Turner is also a product of the youth set-up at Lancashire, and the batsman is currently part of the county’s U15 side.

For Stretford, the club are currently 8^th in the league in what is there first season as a member of the Lancashire County League after joining from another competition in the area.

Chris Turner feels the club is content with their first season in the league: “Luckily we have a great infrastructure in place to develop the youth players that has seen a young 1^st team this season. We are doing alright in the table, and the lads are making a good account of themselves.”

Stretford continue their league campaign with an away trip to 10^th place Cheetham Hill.CC this Saturday (18^th August).
