Visually impaired cricket

On Sunday the 19th of August Coddington & Winthorpe Cricket club will play host to Nottinghamshire Visually Impaired Cricket Club (NVICC). 

This will be a game played on equal footing as the Coddington & Winthorpe team will be asked to play in simulation goggles which will simulate different levels of blindness.

NVICC are a new team in their second year of playing and enjoyed success in this year’s cup beating an established team in the shape of Hampshire before being knocked out in the quarter finals by last year’s league champions Sussex. 

From next year, NVICC will enter the league proper and will be the only visually impaired cricket team in the league.

The game of visually impaired cricket is played with a size 3 football with a teaspoon of lead shot in it which means that it rattles allowing the batsman and fielders to hear it.

Each team comprises 4 totally blind players or (B1's) and then of 7 other players to a B4 partially sighted player.

The game is seen as an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of NVICC and Visually Impaired Cricket with the match showing that there are no boundaries when it comes to playing cricket or sport in general.

 So if you are interested and fancy coming along to watch cricket as played by the visually impaired come along to Coddington & Winthorpe Cricket Club, Holme Lane, Winthorpe, Newark On Trent, Nottinghamshire NG24 2NU and the match starts at 2pm.
