Cumberland have won the Minor Counties Trophy for the second time in their history after a rain-affected 7-wicket victory over Wiltshire at Wormsley Cricket Ground.
The match had to be played over two days after only 36 overs could be bowled on Wednesday because of the rainy conditions.
In bowling-friendly conditions, Cumberland won the toss and understandably put Wiltshire into bat after a lengthy wait during the day on Wednesday.
After reaching 142 for 8 at the end of the day, Wiltshire eventually reached 184 all-out in 45.4 overs.
Ashur Morrison top-scored with 59, alongside Tahir Afridi who hit a late 25 towards the end of Wiltshire’s innings.
Chris Thompson took a hat-trick for Cumberland to finish with figures of 3-40, with Toby Bulcock also taking three wickets.
Despite James Lowe departing early on, Cumberland reached the target inside 33 overs.
Josh Tolley hit 67 and Jonathon Miles hit 41 as the pair put on 112 for the second wicket.
Liam Livingstone’s 16 not out alongside Skipper Gary Pratt, who hit an unbeaten 24 saw Cumberland home to take the crown.
It is a momentous victory for Cumberland, with the county last winning the cup back in 1989.
