Ealing C.C. all-rounder Oliver Wilkin has been called into the Middlesex C.C.C. set-up after a fantastic campaign last season in the ECB Middlesex Premier League.
Promoted to the unfamiliar position of opening the batting, Wilkin scored heavily during the season including a couple of hundreds, as well as opening the bowling for his hometown club.
This led to a call from Ex-England bowler and Managing Director of Cricket at Middlesex C.C.C Angus Fraser inviting him to join the ranks at the county.
Wilkin will be part of the 2nd team set up, who play and train in midweek, and will continue to turn out for Ealing C.C. at weekends.
And the youngster, who was introduced to the game at 8-years-old by his father, says playing league cricket has helped to get him to the standard he’s at now:
“Playing in the 1st team has been a big step up from being in the 2nds.
“Being able to bowl at the best batsmen in the league and facing the best bowlers has definitely helped me to progress.”
Speaking about what the future might hold for him, Wilkin was very cautious over his chances of breaking into the county’s first team:
“I would like to think my chances were high but I really don’t know.
“I’ll just have to see how it goes over this season and see how I get on.
“But for my personal wants, I’d like to think so.”
