Woodsetts Cricket Club 1st team will have to wait another year for promotion after narrowly missing out on a place in the top two of the league this season.
The main aim for the 1st team this season was to gain promotion, and despite a great performance in the second half of the campaign, they could only manage 4th place in Division 4 of the Bassetlaw & District League.
The eight games cancelled as a result of the poor English Summer did certainly not do the side any favours.
Woodsetts 2nd team started their season brilliantly and were at one stage flying high at the top of the table.
Unfortunately, as the season went on, availability began to become more problematic and the side slid into a mid-table position.
Very early on in the 3rd team’s season the side were dealt a major blow when their veteran skipper suffered an injury which ruled him out for most of the season.
This gave the opportunity for the club’s younger players to establishment themselves in the team, and the youngsters didn’t disappoint.
The side narrowly missed out on promotion into Division 7 finishing in 3rd place.
This year Woodsetts managed to field a team in the Rotherham Midweek League for the first time in many years.
It was an extremely successful year for the mid-week team as they achieved promotion and reached the semi-final of Haigh Cup.
It has also been a productive year off the field for Woodsetts.
The club achieved Clubmark accreditation which provides Woodsetts with a lot more funding options for the near future.
The club are hoping to buy the ground at Shireoaks next year and then over the next five years develop it back to its former glory, which historically has seen county cricket and women’s international cricket played there.
Woodsetts have a major challenge on their hands in raising funds to improve the club and move it forward, if you’d like to donate in any capacity then please do not hesitate to contact on firstname.lastname@example.org.
