Heyside aiming high for next season with new signing

Heyside aiming high!
If experience was what Heyside Cricket Club were looking for in their overseas player for the forthcoming season, then they have certainly hit the nail on the head.
Namibian international all-rounder Gerrie Snyman has agreed to join the Lancashire club for next year, and Heyside are certainly hoping Snyman can deliver to help them push on to challenge for the title come next August.
Having represented his country in over 50 first-class matches, Snyman played a big part in Namibia’s 2003 ICC world cup campaign, and has the dismissals of Andrew Flintoff and Paul Collingwood to his name.
Heyside will be hoping Snyman can recapture the form that saw him hit 230 in just 201 balls in an Intercontinental cup match against Kenya. The 31-year old also hit 11 sixes in the innings, that stands as his highest score to date.
Despite Snyman’s undoubted talent, the Namibian sure has a tough act to follow with previous club professional Roelof Hugo a huge success for many years at Heyside. Last season was an impressive way to finish at the club for the South African, hitting over 800 runs at an average of 51.
Hugo not returning to the club for personal reasons has paved the way for Snyman to join Heyside and fellow player Stuart Moore is clearly happy with the signing: “After thoroughly searching for a replacement for Hugo, we were delighted when Gerrie became available to us. His record speaks for itself and he comes highly recommended.”
With years of English club cricket experience under his belt, Snyman is well known for his explosive batting, and once hit 17 sixes on his way to 196 in a one-day tie against the UAE showing his aggressive style.
With Heyside approaching their 125th anniversary season, they will sure to be quietly confident that Snyman will be a big hit with both the bat, and the ball next season.
