High Lane C.C. from the Derbyshire and Cheshire league were missing the cricket season so much the club decided to walk the 60 mile route around all of the league’s grounds, in just two days.
The idea was thought up in order to raise club funds for some new net facilities at the ground after last season’s successful promotion campaign for the 2nds.
So, after deciding to split the money with Chrisitie’s Cancer Centre, the 25 man strong party set about their gruelling challenge.
With the help of the club’s ‘wags’ who visited the guys for some lunch and moral support, the party managed half of the grounds in the first day.
After an evening of recuperation at the clubhouse, involving pasta and football on the TV, the club set out for the final leg of their walk.
Through the wind and rain the guys ploughed through to reach their target and raised £4000 for the club to share with Christie’s.
The trek did come at a cost for a number of the walkers, with many ending the walk with blisters the size of dinner plates (This is no exaggeration, I do unfortunately have the evidence).
But the biggest cost came to 1st team who’s skipper Steve Pigeon discovered he had walked the last 15 miles with torn knee cartilage and will miss the beginning of the season.
But overall the fundraiser was a huge success and has helped the club move a step closer towards their target.
Well done to all of the club’s members that were involved for not only completing the challenge but raising a lot of money for a great cause, well done!!
