Burnham.CC spinner Aftab Khan finished with incredible figures of 9-51 at the weekend to become the LCA Bowler of the Week.
It’s not often you’ll see a bowler claiming 9 wickets and still be on the losing team, and last Saturday was one of those rare moments.
Khan took the wickets in the club’s narrow 18-run defeat over Banbury.CC in the Home Counties Premier League.
6 of his dismissals were clean bowled as Khan swept through the Banbury batting line-up to leave the visitors 137 for 9 off 66 overs.
Anish Desai was the only batsman to resist Khan’s onslaught hitting a crucial unbeaten 37 to leave Banbury with a competitive total.
4-60 from James Phillips, and three wickets from John West helped Banbury secure an unlikely victory.
Raja Rehman top-scored with 32 as Burnham collapsed to 119 all-out.
Burnham will certainly view the defeat as a missed opportunity the club dangling over the relegation zone in this crucial stage of the season.
Khan, who has been a regular in the Banbury side for a number of years, secured his third 5 wicket haul of the season with the 9 wickets at the weekend.
The club face a tough away trip to Harpenden.CC this Saturday (28th July) as they continue their league campaign.
