Mattie McKiernan
Mattie McKiernan finished with impressive figures of 8-38 for Leigh Cricket Club at the weekend to become the LCA Bowler of the Week.
The spinner took the wickets in the clubs narrow 25-run defeat to Lytham.CC in the Liverpool & District Premier League.
Guy Roberts top-scored for Lytham with 39 as the visitors could only post 148 all-out batting first.
6 of McKiernan’s 8 wickets came as caught as the Northamptonshire 2XI spinner tore through the Lytham batting line-up.
Three wickets each from Anthony Mulligan and Ben Saunders helped Lytham pull of an unlikely victory to dismiss Leigh for 123.
Matthew Hibbert was the only real mainstay for Leigh hitting 36.
The defeat leaves Leigh third in the league with one match remaning, whilst Lytham have already confirmed the title sitting over 100 points ahead of second place.
Barnsley Cricket Club opener Jonathon Trower smashed an unbeaten 169 at the weekend to become the LCA Batsman of the Week.
Trower hit the runs in the clubs 60-run victory over Doncaster Town.CC in the Yorkshire Premier League.
It took just 171 balls for the 33-year old to hit the runs, that included 19 fours to help Barnsley post 266 for 8 off their 55 overs.
James Stuart and Ashley Knowles were the pick of the Doncaster bowlers both taking three wickets.
Despite 78 from Gareth Cox and 46 from Amitpaul Kundra, the visitors fell short of the target nine wickets down to hand an ‘Incomplete Win’ to Barnsley on their last league match of the season.
Seamer Ryan Hercules finished with impressive figures of 5-29 for the hosts.
The result has left Barnsley third in the league, just 26 points off champions York whilst Doncaster finished 11th.
