Maier has had an immediate impact!
With both Middleton.CC 1st and 2nd teams winning their respective leagues this season, it’s fair to say new Head Coach Rob Maier has brought instant success to the Sussex club.
New cricket coach Rob Maier joined Middleton at the start of this season hoping to give the cricket section a new found enthusiasm and bring long term success to every age group, from under nines to 1st XI.
This season saw Middleton’s 1st XI win the West Sussex Division 3 title with eight players who have successfully risen through every age group cricket team.
Maier is fully aware the club could not have been successful without all the support around him: “All in all I am thrilled to be involved at the club and my thanks and congratulations go to both the 1st and 2nd team on their promotions as well as all those unsung heroes that do so much behind the scenes work.”
The former Middlesex and Ealing CC Academy coach brought structure and professionalism to training programmes at the club as well as installing the belief that sport can be rewarding, fun and inclusive all at the same time.
Maier believes it’s a long-term project he is involved in at Middleton: "The club is in a building phase and we are looking to develop an already healthy junior section. We have some really good young players and the majority of the senior side is made up of players that are in their 20’s. Having players that enjoy each other’s company on and off the pitch is also unique and something that works well for the teams especially when the going is tough.”
The youth section at the club is ever-present with nearly 50 young cricketers train on Monday evenings while parents enjoy a BBQ on the side-lines.
The club offers opportunities for children of any age from nine upwards and are planning a girls team next year.
Middleton welcomes people of all abilities to the club so if you’re in the area why not pop down and give it a go.
