Nantwich.CC - 2012 Cheshire Premier League Champions

Nantwich.CC secured their third successive Cheshire Premier League title finishing 12 points clear of second place Hyde.CC.

The club confirmed the crown with a final day victory over Toft.CC by 46-runs that capped off an excellent 2^nd half of the season for the champions.

After the win, Nantwich skipper Andy Newton commended his team’s effort: “It has been a wonderful run-in for us to win this trophy a third time. We have done it in a different way, with some different players, but it’s been just as satisfying.”

The runs of Louis Bentley & Jonathon Kettle were key for Nantwich in their title bid this season alongside 58 league wickets from seamer James Warrington.

Despite Toft’s defeat to champions Nantwich, the club narrowly survived relegation finishing on the same points as Urmston.CC but finished with one more victory.

Widnes.CC are also relegated after finishing bottom of the league, but only four points off survival.

It was a successful season for Bowdon.CC and Grappenhall.CC who have both achieved promotion in the Cheshire Premier League.

The pair fought off though competition from Bramhall.CC, who secure eight straight victories at the end of this season to finish in third place.

It was another tight relegation battle in Division 1, With Irby.CC and Bollington.CC the clubs to drop down.

 Brooklands.CC finished on the same points as Bollington, but survive relegation ending the season with one more victory than their rivals.

It was also a thrilling end to Division Two of the league with Middlewich.CC & Cheadle.CC finishing on the same points to be promoted.

Middlewich took the division title losing one less match than Cheadle.

There was a shock at the bottom of the table with Upton.CC losing their final match of the season to be relegated  to the Meller Braggins Cheshire League.

Malpas.CC also drop out of the division finishing bottom of the division with just one league victory all season.

For those of you who thought this season may have been the wettest in Cheshire cricket league history are wrong.

16% of the fixtures were rained of this season (although many games registered as draws were rain-reduced) which is lower than 23% back in 1983 which holds the record.
