A mix of old and new faces are joining Oulton Park Cricket Club for next season in an attempt to push the 1XI back into the Cheshire County Premier League.
With seven county Premier League titles under his belt, Guy Emmet has returned to the club, and the former Cheshire left-arm bowler is likely to have a key role in both the 1st team, and in passing his valuable experience on to the younger players at the club. Emmet left Oulton to captain his home town side Grappenhall.CC last season.
With clear aspirations to bounce straight back into the top league of the Cheshire County League, the club have also recruited wicket-keeper Pat Roberts from Premier League side Toft Cricket Club. Robert’s moving down a league to join Oulton Park will be a big boost for the club, and provide the club with some experience at the top level of the County leagues.
After being brief involved at the club last year, overseas Rhys Burke is joining for the 2012 season. Having played in Division One for the last two seasons, Burke will know exactly what it takes to win matches at this level. The Australian will also have a key role in coaching the junior squads at the club.
After previously being highly rated as a youngster at the club, Luke Heritage has returned to Oulton Park after time away from the club. After previously playing for Cheshire as a junior, Oulton are hoping Heritage can play a big part in the club’s push for promotion. Having left the club to pursue football and career interests, new team-mate Danny Leech is delighted with the middle-order batsman returning: “Despite Heritage’s limited experience playing at senior level, he is a natural cricketer, and possess great qualities with the bat, and in the field.”
Oulton Park start their 2012 campaign with an away trip to Heaton Mersey.CC on the 21st of April.
