Scunthorpe Cricket Club

Scunthorpe Cricket Club have been denied the opportunity to play in the Lincolnshire Premier League after doubts were raised as to whether their pitch and outfield would be up to top flight standard for 2013.

The decision was made at the league’s annual general meeting last week.

A statement from the Lincolnshire Premier League states the league will look to discuss the matter further with Scunthorpe: “The club has now been invited to work with the ECB League’s Development Committee in an attempt to address the concerns.”

Scunthorpe had previously won the Premier Division of the Lincolnshire County League to be in with a chance of securing a place in the county’s top flight.

The decision now means Spalding.CC, who finished as champions of the South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One, will be the only team promoted into the Premier League replacing Boston.CC.

The decision also means Market Deeping.CC, who finished 2^nd bottom this season, now have a 2^nd lifeline and will remain in the Premier League for the 2013 season.

The League also aims to create a second division in time for the 2014 season.

At least eight teams are being sought to create the new division along with the two who finish bottom of the ECB Premier League next season.

The idea will be discussed further  at the clubs next meeting on the 9^th January 2013.
