Opener Harry Stephens hit 147 for Guildford.CC at the weekend to become the LCA Batsman of the Week.
The 17-year old hit the runs in the club’s winning draw against second-bottom Camberley.CC in the Premier League of the Surrey Championship.
The right-hander wasn’t the only centurion of the match, with Camberley opener Lance Rodrigues hitting 114 to help the visitors post a mammoth 371 for 8 off their 66 overs.
Stephens also played his part with the ball finishing with figures of 3-56.
Well supported by Chris Thompson, who hit 86, Stephens struck 14 fours and 7 sixes on his way to 147 in just 134 balls.
Guildford eventually finished on 327 for 7 off 56 overs, ending the match as a draw.
Will Sabey and Tom Ortiz were the pick of the bowlers for Camberley finishing with figures of 3-38 and 3-106 respectively.
Guildford 1st team captain Jeremy Greaves was delighted with Stephens’ performance: “It was an incredible innings by Harry and included some excellent shorts all around the park. Chasing such a huge total, at one point it looked like he was going to win the game for us.”
After leading in the table at the early part of the season, Guildford sit in third place but just one point below current leaders Wimbledon.CC, and level on points with second-place Reigate Priory.CC.
Greaves is confident his side are in a good position to win the title this year: “We are still in the hunt for achieving our goal, after a couple of draws instead of victories we have dropped a couple of places but I’m confident we can get back to the top of the table.”
Guildford continue their league campaign with an away trip to Sunbury.CC this Saturday (7th July).
