Marcus Trescothick in action for England v Australia
Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick could appear for Bridgwater.CC before the end of the season after signing on with the West of England Premier League club.
The Somerset opener has been sidelined since the middle of April after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury suffered during a County Championship match against Nottinghamshire.
Trescothick is hoping to complete his rehabilitation programme over the next few weeks, and Bridgwater are confident the left-hander will make at least one appearance before the end of the season, as the club look to consolidate their strong position at the top of the table.
The 36-year old’s availability is of course subject to being required by Somerset.
The signing of the former England international will only boost an already strong Bridgwater batting line-up.
Michael Coles, Merv Hallaran & Chris Grange have all hit important runs for Bridgwater so far this year, with the club eight points ahead of second place Bath.CC.
Current league champions Bath are likely to be Bridgewater’s only real competition for the title with 3rd place Corsham 34 points adrift of the leaders.
Bridgwater face a top of the table clash against Bath this Saturday (7th July), with the victors taking a huge step towards winning the league.
