Putting in place a structure that works and that you can grow from:You are here: Home » JUNIOR SECTION » Strong Structure
Focus on the younger age groups:
These are the people that will make up the junior teams for years to come
Parents play a large role and will move up the age groups with their children so involving and encouraging them to coach and manage teams is essential
Hopefully gaining members at a young age will mean that they are more likely to stay with the club in the senior section and remain loyal
The development of every player and a pathway through the club:
There are many benefits to young players when they join a cricket club and the club has to be prepared to cater for all ages and abilities. With a focus on getting people from the local area involved in cricket and future loyal members, the club has to mix enjoyment with a clear pathway through the club to the men’s teams and beyond if that is the standard aspired to.
PATHWAY
Beginner U9’s – They will be playing with soft balls and be introduced to the basics of the game focus is very much on enjoyment
U10 – Friendlies can be arranged to build up contacts at other clubs and then competitive games introduced as the club progresses
Introduction to hard ball U11 Competitive games are played in leagues
U13’s & U15’s as well as these age groups having their own teams that compete in local, regional and national competitions the players are more than likely to be making appearances in the men’s teams.
Academy – A stepping stone from junior to senior cricket. This introduces the players to more detailed skills involving tactical awareness and fitness, and also gives the late developers a chance to shine.
Men’s Cricket – depending on the size and standard of the senior section of the club, many players can be introduced at a young age to gain experience
1st Team Cricket – Ultimately the pinnacle of cricket at your club and something that the juniors will hopefully aspire to.
Each county will have their own pathway through for junior players from starting to play the game through to County First team Cricket.
An example of such a pathway is Sussex:
